Last week I was traveling by train from Aluva to Thrissur. I got into the compartment. It was too crowded. Anyway I found a place to stand near the door. The compartment was chair-car model. I was surveying the compartment. I saw a man standing near to me. He was half blind [I think, as he could see things with difficulty.]
The people sitting in the chairs near him has noticed him. But I noticed that no one provided him a seat. The people sitting included youngsters also. but non seemed to help that blind man. I felt very bad. I thought this is the state of God's own country. A blind person, in a crowded train is not provided by a seat. The train reached Angamaly and some of the people sitting got out of the train. Some people standing hurried to sit, but still no one offered this blind person a seat.
Now that got me angry. I was fuming. I thought nobody in this compartment had any sympathy to that blind man? I decided, next time if this blind person is not provided a seat, when it gets vacant, I'm gonna shout at these person. I will ask them, don't anyone has any sympathy etc. . I was preparing what all things I should say. I noticed that the blind person picked up his bag now. He was searching for something in his bag. He got 2-3 small cashew nut packets, that we see at shops, which may cost 5-10 Rs. Now Mr. Blind man showed that packets to the very next person and said, "Oru packet pathe roopa"[One packet, 10 rupees] .
I was shocked. I thought what would have happened if I had shouted at these person. Now I got to know the real scene. this person would have come there selling cashews. As that is the last compartment, he stopped there and waited for sometime. The people sitting there knew that he was a vendor and so none was bothered to give him a seat. What would have happened if I had shouted at those sitting? Phewww!! That was close..
[I decided I won't show any humanitarian concerns until I got to know the full scenario...]
