Our state Kerala is called 'Gods Own Country'. I accept that its not anywhere near that actully. But this state is in the process of making it the 'Real Gods Own Country'. Check this statistics:
- Kerala has highest literacy among the states of India.
- More than 94% of the rural population has access to primary school within 1 km, while 98% of population benefits one school within a distance of 2 km
- Almost a fourth of India's 10,000 plant species are found in the state.
- Kerala's rate of population growth is India's lowest
- Kerala's decadal population growth (9.42% in 2001) is less than half the all-India average of 21.34%
- Kerala's human development indices— primary level education, health care and elimination of poverty—are among the best in India
- Kerala has one of the highest literacy rates (94.59%) among Indian states[8] and life expectancy (74 years) was among the highest in India in 2011
- The life expectancy of Kerala is similar to developed nations in the world that shows the facilities for treatment and health.
- Kerala's healthcare system has garnered international acclaim.
- The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organisation designated Kerala the world's first "baby-friendly state" because of its effective promotion of breast-feeding.
- More than 95% of Keralite births are hospital-delivered.
- In 1991, Kerala's total fertility rate (children born per women) was the lowest in India
- Kerala's female-to-male ratio (1.058) is significantly higher than that of the rest of India.
- The National Family Health Survey – 3, conducted in 2007 ranked Kerala as a state with the highest media exposure in India.
- National Geographic's Traveller magazine names Kerala as one of the "ten paradises of the world" and "50 must see destinations of a lifetime".
- Travel and Leisure names Kerala as "One of the 100 great trips for the 21st century"
Even developed countries try to follow Kerala model which is defined as:
- A set of high material quality-of-life indicators coinciding with low per-capita incomes, both distributed across nearly the entire population of Kerala.
- A set of wealth and resource redistribution programmes that have largely brought about the high material quality-of-life indicators.
- High levels of political participation and activism among ordinary people along with substantial numbers of dedicated leaders at all levels. Kerala's mass activism and committed cadre were able to function within a largely democratic structure, which their activism has served to reinforce.
All these were not achived in a single day. It was well planed and well executed. It took a hell lot of time to achive these status. Right now Keralam is the best place to live in India.
But right now the Gods Own Country is in the brink of a massive disaster. Mullaperiyar!. If this dam breaks, not only the life of 35Lakh people will be affected, but all these hard work will also be lost with it. This beautiful heaven will be turned to Hell.
By this strugle, we are not against Tamil nadu or against, giving water to them. But we are fighting for our life. Our right to live.To Live without fear. Its not decided by any F**** Vaiko Vasu or any other idiots. This is My State and we have every damn right to live here.
We, keralites have never played the Regional or Language trump till date. But now we are forced to.

കേരളം എന്ന് കേട്ടാലോ തിളക്കന്നം ചോര ഞരമ്പുകളില് "
Save MullaPeriyar! Save Kerala

Think about joining the Amercan union or at-least to China.
there are many things to consider before saying a word abt this issue .. since 1970s our politicians are saying this dam will break .the entire 500/5000 acres that the dam stands on is tamil nadu's and not ours .this is as per an agreement made during the british rule.its tamil nadu's responsibility to strenghten the dam but since this issue has been politicized our govt and local bodies have not allowed them to carry out any repair works . there are instances when they had to transport cement bags on donkey backs since we didnt allow them to transport it via vehicles citing noise disturbances to wildlife.yes, its true ! also our politicians have not allowed power supply to a tamilnadu pwd office situated near the dam .the issue is a bottleneck for our politicians as they are now at a point where thetre is no turning back .But we as responsible indian citizens must try to see the actual situation before trying to frame our opinion . i have just told some snipetes i have come across regarding this . . . after all all central govt reports since 1970s have rejected our claim for a new dam .even supreme court ruled it out . is it simply because tn has a better presence in national politics over these years ???
